IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Can't wait to see you all for our big day!

Here is some basic facts and general information we thought would be helpful to know before you travel....

Currency:
The currency in Costa Rica is the colon (CRC).
The exchange rate is 1USD= .0019371 CRC
It will be best to either order colones from your US bank before you travel to maximize the best deal on the exchange rate OR do so at the bank (any Costa Rican local bank will suffice) when you arrive. DO NOT exchange your money at the airport. It is NOT in your best interest money wise!!!
Basic Crc paper money:
1000crc =1.76 usd
2 mil crc= 3.52 usd
5 mil crc= 8.81 usd
10 mil crc= 17.62 usd
20 mil crc= 35.24 usd

Aside from rental car and accommodation, which will most likely be charged in USD, it will be cheaper to pay for everything else in colones, including credit card transactions.
Most restaurant bills will have tax and 10% tip included, so be on the lookout for this, additional tip is not expected.

WHATSAPP: Be sure to download this free app before you travel. It is the best way to communicate with family, friends, and locals.

Bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent with you, it is expensive to buy in Costa Rica.

Renting a Car: It is highly recommended to rent an SUV or something with larger tires, due to windy roads and pot holes. Do not expect to go anywhere fast, roads are easily congested and traffic can be bad. Aside from buses there is very little public transportation and "drivers" are almost always running late.

Speed Traps and Police: Best to drive the speed limit and follow all traffic laws. Police are looking for every excuse to pull over a gringo, but if you do get pulled over, dont fear. "Bribes"are illegal for tourist AND police but common, do not pay too much.

Theft: Do not leave belongings or valuable in cars unattended. Tourist theft is very common. Always bring money and valuables with you or leaved them in a safe, secure location.

Water/Ice: Better safe than sorry, best to check with your accommodation to make sure the water is filtered or stick to bottled. May be a good idea to bring along some water purification tablets just to be on the safe side (found on amazon or at Walmart). Noone wants to be sick in paradise!
